meditative works (2017-18)
“Breath” is an installation with a performative character performed in my studio.
In the preparation of this installation, there were phases to go through.
The ink is rubbed in meditative preparation for the work. The brush is then carefully filled with the Sumi ink before starting work. Without a preconceived plan, the brush on paper follows the inhalation and the exhalation. Each breath is affected by the previous breath and the previous breaths.
In this installation, 58 breaths hang in a circular shape. There is a breath on each sheet of rice paper; consisting of an inhalation and an exhalation. The installation hangs and moves on air currents that are present in the room. Seen in this way, the work itself also seems to breathe.

Following my breath from the beginning of each inhale,
all the way through the end of each exhale.
